Amazon Essential Oil Quality and Why I Quit Using doTERRA Exclusively

I’ve used doTERRA products for a while now, but recently, I have found myself looking at the Amazon essential oil quality. What? Why on earth would I look at other products than the only ones I would trust with B. And ones that have worked so well to keep her healthy?
I know that the quality of Amazon essential oils have been question, but when I do find myself just using them to boost my mood or add scent, quality isn’t my biggest concern.
But when I use them around Blakely, or to boost our family’s immune system, the quality cannot be compromised. So what matters in regards to quality, and how does it compare?
doTERRA’s Essential Oil Quality
doTERRA has their own testing process:
CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®. The CPTG process certifies that there are no added fillers, synthetic ingredients, or harmful contaminants in their essential oils that would reduce their efficacy. doTERRA even goes a step further, putting all their products and the packaging through a battery of tests to ensure a long and effective shelf-life. This protocol ensures potency, purity, and consistency batch to batch. Source
doTERRA’s experts are just that – experts. As a new mom who was overly cautious about using products on my baby, they gave me the knowledge to feel comfortable knowing what I was doing was good.
doTERRA’s On Guard has been an amazing product for our family. I’ve diffused it and applied in a roller ball to B’s feet. And it is still the main product I will be using on B for protecting her immune system.
The entire touch line was diluted enough for me to know it was OK for B. No second guessing of “did I use to much” or “where the heck do I apply this one?” On the bottom of her feet and we were good!
Amazon Essential Oil Quality
All essential oils are NOT created equally, so please do your research! Often, the price is reflective of the quality. I’m not moving away from doTERRA to save money, more so that I could have more flexibility on oils and plus, you know my love of Amazon Prime.
But as a general rule, a set of 8 essential oils for $15 will not be high quality oils. And remember, we’re using essential oils to improve our health and decrease toxins.
- Be sure to look for oils that are pure and contain no fillers like coconut oil or any other carrier. These are diluted!
- Do their oils use their latin name? If not, that’s a big red flag as well.
- Company information. Reputable companies will let you know their essential oil quality and how/where it is sourced. This is important stuff!
What Amazon Essential Oils I Would Purchase
I’m currently looking for another immune booster, one for sleep, and one for focus.
Rocky Mountain Oils – Immune Strength – this one is from a reputable company, and I can tell from the ingredients in the blend, it is pretty similar to my beloved On Guard from doTERRA. Their company description is impressive, and I will feel safe diffusing in our living room.
Edens Garden Good Night – This isn’t a brand I was familiar with, but I was impressed! It met all of my criteria.
Plant Therapy’s Brain Aid – no carriers, but not as much about the product. I would definitely use this in my own office, but a brand I may be cautious with around B.
Amazon Essential Oils I Won’t Use
I see the “NOW” brand being used all the time, and I purchase this brand for several other supplements. Clearly, its a brand I trust. However, most of their essential oil blends have a carrier, which tells me it is diluted down.
The NOW Peaceful Sleep is something I’ve seen other bloggers even post about, but please be cautious!
Again, just do your research. My criteria is simple, so if it can’t meet that, I can’t use it.
